National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme

The National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme (NICAS) is a UK wide scheme designed to promote climbing development and accredit individual achievement on artificial climbing structures. It can be used as a starting point for people wishing to take up climbing and mountaineering. Using a series of five awards of increasing technical skill. It is open to all candidates aged 7 and upwards. They are administered by the Association of British Climbing Walls [ABC] and delivered by primary centres (The Edge). And also endorsed by The British Mountaineering Council. [BMC]

The awards aim to accredit achievement in climbing and to provide a structure for learning best practice in the sport. The awards focus on skill development and safety and require the gaining of logged experience via completion of log books. Open to climbers from 7 onwards of any ability, though the higher levels also include a performance element to promote personal development. [Getting Started]
